Does one need to be a AAA member to get the IDP license through AAA?

No you do not need to be a member of AAA - you can walk right into their office with the form and your current, valid license and walk out with an international driving permit. Easy as pie, and cost about $15 I think.

Costa Rica is great, we love it here. However there are many options on the table, you have to find what suits your needs. Panama is also very nice, but the economy is closely tied to the US, and for that reason, I'd be cautious recommending it. Our dear friends live in Uruguay and love it, similar to Costa Rica in many ways, but more European.

I suggest you find a couple of yahoo groups for the countries that interest you, and get on those to ask questions - many people on those boards actually live there, and can give info.

Also, look up those countries online and read everything you can about them, take notes - (it all mingles together after a while! TRUST ME! LOL)

However, feel free to start a Costa Rica thread and ask all the questions you like :-)
